I had the amazing opportunity to test this jumpsuit pattern for In the Folds early this year. I fell in love with it, the moment I saw the line drawings!
I absolutely love Emily's vision and her attention to detail. If you have not yet subscribed to her newsletter, you need to right away. Her Q and A series are a treasure trove of information and hacks. She teaches you concepts in detail with pictures to match. You can subscribe here.
I used her instructions on how to change a jumpsuit pattern into a dress and hacked the Nova Jumpsuit by True Bias into a Dress (posted on my Minerva Page). This is just one example of how her newsletter can be useful.
The Neale Jumpsuit is a very relaxed garment that can be perfect for lounging, work and going out to town depending on what fabric you use and how you style it. It have bust darts and a invisible side zipper. One shoulder has button closures which makes the howl garment easy to wear.
The garment comes with an optional belt that completely changes the look of the outfit. I can't yet decide which I like better. :)
The Fabric
I love this pattern so much and the fit of this jumpsuit that I have already made 2 Neale jumpsuits already! 😁
The first one I made (pictured above) is using a Lyocell rayon twill weave that I purchased from Joanns. The fabric was lovely to work with.
For me second Neale, I chose to use this beautiful cotton lawn gifted to me from Minerva.
Both fabrics work really well for this pattern. What do you want to make it in?
Sewing the jumpsuit
Looking through the pattern charts, I chose to cut out a size D. I them made my usual modifications which include
1. shorten the front and back rise bu 1/2 inch
2. Shorten the length of the garment by 1" at the legs
I then made a toile for this jumpsuit. I don;t always makde toiles these day (mostly because I am lazy). But when I tested for this pattern, I was not as confident. And I am glad I made a toile
After I made the toile, I
1. removed 1/2 inch off my CF and CB seams all the way down to the inseam.
2. I removed 1/2 inch from the shoulder straps as well.
These modifications gave me a wonderful fit.
The exciting part of testing for this pattern is that is came with a Fit Kit. This fit kit is a comprehensive guide that walks you through how to do any adjust on this particular pattern to fit your body. From full and small bust adjustments, to sway back adjustments or shoulder adjustments, you have it all.
I found this fit kit elevate my sewing skills and I hope it will help you too.
