Peppermint jumpsuit by In the Folds and Peppermint Magazine

In this post, i take you through how I made the peppermint jumpsuit pattern to fit. #peppermintjumpsuit #peppermintmagazine #thehemlineeclectic #inthefolds

This jumpsuit was made with beautiful linen rayon blend fabric in the color paprika!

In the folds patterns in peppermint magazine

Emily from in the folds makes excellent and very easy to wear sewing patterns. garments that fit into everyday life. I love sewing her patterns. And a number of her patterns are free from the peppermint magazine website. There are so many patterns. As a beginner sewist, instead of investing in paid patterns, I recommend you first test all the techniques using these free patterns. They all from amazing indie designers.

Peppermint jumpsuit pattern - Fabric choices

I love how this jumpsuit turned out. But, in retrospect, I should have made a toile. I spent a LOT of time with fit than I needed to because i just cut out my linen!

Nowadays, when I work with jumpsuit patterns, I try to make a romper/playsuit first so I know that the bodice and the rise are ok.

For this jumpsuit, I recommend fabric with some structure like linen/cotton blends! light weight denim would also work great as well as denim! Hmmm.. denim peppermint jumpsuit would be awesome!

Fitting the jumpsuit

Looking at the size chart, I decided to cut out a Size D. Before I cut the fabric, I did some pretty normal changes to the pattern for my body type.

1. I shortened the bodice (above the waist) by 2 inches

2. I shortened the hem by 2 inches (I am 5'3"). The pattern is drafted fro someone who is 5'6". And I love a cropped look

3. I also decided to have inseam pockets. The pattern does not have pockets!

I did not do anything to the rise because when I tried to place the paper pattern on myself, it seemed ok.

Here are the adjustments I did after

1. I made the sides more fitted by sewing with 1 and 5/8 seam allowance in total from the armhole to the hem

2. I shortened the shoulder straps by 5/8 inch more (front and back). Since i had already sewn in the facing using the burrito method, I just cut at the seam and used the Sew Over It's Cami sewing method (joining the straps) to make it shorter. It required some thoughtful construction but it turned out seamless in the end. Figuring this out took a while

All of this made me very tired but I am very happy in the end. My next one will be much easier! That reminds me, maybe one in chambray or lightweight denim! :)

Techniques you will learn

1. How to sew an enclosed facing using a burrito method!! (this will blow you mind!)

2. How to sew an invisible zipper

3. How to fit a jumpsuit where the bodice and the pants are one piece

Styling

In this post, I have styled my jumpsuit with a strappy brown sandals from Cole Haan.
